26 New TV Series Everyone Will Watch This Year

We still don’t know a ton about Amazon’s series, but it will be set during the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythological Middle-earth, well before the era of Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf, and company. Tolkien left a lot of potential ground to cover there, but this is roughly the era when the Rings of Power were forged, eventually leading to the human/elf alliance covered in the prologue to Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring. The show is also going to be expensive: Amazon’s planning to spend somewhere in the neighborhood of a billion dollars for the planned five seasons, which would make it the most expensive TV series ever by a significant margin.
