The Steam Deck is a really handy gaming device. Not only is it capable of playing the latest PC games available on Steam, but you can also set it up to play PS5 games remotely. In this guide, I’ll teach you how to install an app called Chiaki4Deck, which makes playing PS5 games on your Steam Deck super easy.
Prep now and make your life easier
Because you’re going to be visiting a website, inputting some information, and running commands, I recommend connecting a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to your Steam Deck. This will make the process much easier. You’ll also want to ensure your Steam Deck and PS5 console are both completely updated. That will ensure no updates get in the way while going through the actual setup process.
Time to download Chiaki
The next step is to download and install the Chiaki4Deck app on your Steam Deck. To do this, head into Desktop Mode. That can easily be done by pressing the Steam Button, then Power > Desktop Mode.
Now, open the Discovery app on your Steam Deck. This app’s icon looks just like a shopping bag.
From here, locate the search menu and type in Chiaki. Now select install on the Chiaki4deck application.
Once the app is installed, it’s time to connect it to your PS5.
Set up remote play on your PS5 and connect to Chiaki
Launch your PS5 and head to the Settings app. From here, select System > Remote Play, and ensure Enable Remote Play is ticked on.
The next step requires the keyboard work that I mentioned earlier. Open the Chiaki4deck app and ensure that the PS5 is being detected. Do not select it yet, though.
Navigate to your browser of choice on the Steam Deck, and then type in this link in a new tab (sorry, I know it’s long): https://trinket.io/embed/python3/52183a157e?outputOnly=true&runOption=run&start=result&showInstructions=true
This is a code that will allow you to connect the Chiaki4deck app to your PS5. Head to the URL that it directs you to, then find the URL in the Trinket box. Copy and paste it into a new window. It is important that you keep the tab with the Trinket command open while doing all of this, so that you can easily connect your account.
This will take you to the PlayStation login page. Enter your details and then click login. While I understand that entering your login details into a page like this is normally frowned upon, it is necessary if you want to use the Chiaki app to play PS5 games remotely on your Steam Deck. If you are uncomfortable doing this, you can always enjoy your PS5 games on the console itself or through the Remote Play app on other devices.
Once you have logged in, you’ll be taken to a page that says redirect. When you reach this page, copy the URL and then paste it into the Trinket command where it says to do so. Click Enter and wait for the program to run its course. When it finishes, you should see a section at the end that says “This is your AccountID:”
Copy the ID and return to the Chiaki4Deck app on your Steam Deck.
Tap on the PlayStation 5 that you want to connect to, and then paste the Account ID into the field there. To get the Pin, Navigate to the PS5 Remote Play screen and select Link Device. Enter that Pin in the “Pin” box within Chiaki and click Login. This will register the PS5.
Add Chiaki to your Steam Library
Now that you have Chiaki connected to your PS5, it’s time to add the app to your Steam Library to make it easier to access. While still in Desktop Mode, navigate to the Steam app and find the Add a Game option on the bottom left of the app.
Click this and then select Add a non-Steam game. Find Chiaki4deck in the list and select it. Now switch back to the Gaming Mode by tapping on the icon on your desktop, and find Chiaki in your Steam Library under Non-Steam Games.
Anytime you launch Chiaki, you’ll be able to connect to your PS5 and play games just like you would on any other Remote Play-capable device.
