If you’ve been holding out on buying a new graphics card because of their high prices, then Nvidia finally has some great options on the way. Its new RTX 40 Super cards—which will build off the already successful tech of RTX 40 cards like the 4080, 4090, and 4070 Ti—will offer great performance for a more discounted price.
Despite AMD often offering lower prices, many have continued to hold onto hope that Nvidia would deliver Super versions of its top cards, offering a great way to pick up next-generation performance for lower prices than its current cards go for. Now, it seems that wait has paid off, as Nvidia debuted two high-end Super cards, the RTX 4080 Super and RTX 4070 Ti Super, at CES this year. The two high-end cards are set to go on sale before the end of the month, with the 4080 Super arriving on January 31 for $999 and the 4070 Ti Super launching on January 24 for $799.
The company also debuted a much lower-priced RTX 4070 Super, which boasts a 20 percent upgrade to its CUDA cores compared to the original 4070 and will retail for just $599. The 4070 Super will release on January 17, and the company says it is faster than a 3090.
Here’s a deeper look at the specs that Nvidia has revealed for each card:
-
The 4070 Super will feature 36 Shader TFLOPRs, 3rd Gen 82 RT TFLOPS, 4th Gen 568 AI TOPS, support for DLSS 3, and 12GB memory.
-
The 4070 Ti Super will sport 44 Shader TFLOPS, 3rd Gen 120 RT TFLOPS, 4th Gen 706 AI TOPS, DLSS 3, and 16GB of memory.
-
The 4080 Super, which is set to be second only to the 4090, will offer 52 Shader TFLOPS, 3rd Gen 121 RT TFLOPS, 4th Gen 836 AI TOPS, DLSS 3, and 16GB of memory.
What does Super mean anyway?
If you’re confused by the Super moniker, don’t be. Nvidia often releases new cards with different monikers, like Ti and Super. Essentially, the Super cards are just GPUs with minor upgrades compared to the originals. They also, in this case, have seen some substantial price cuts, making them one of the best ways to purchase an Nvidia RTX 40 Series graphics card.
You can still buy the original 4070, 4070 Ti, and 4080, but if you wait for the Super cards to release, you’ll be able to save some money while also getting a bit more performance for the price.
