One of the many things we’ve learned over the past year is that most office jobs can be done from pretty much anywhere with a solid internet connection (unless you have small children around, but that’s a different story). So after years of office bosses telling employees that working remotely wasn’t an option, that’s a difficult argument to make now.

If you’ve considered hitting the road as a digital nomad—at least temporarily—you may be interested in a new program from Airbnb. It will give 12 people the chance to live in Airbnbs throughout the world for 10 months, while they cover the tab for your travel and accommodation expenses. Here’s what to know and how to apply.
What the program entails
The initiative, called “Live Anywhere on Airbnb,” begins in July 2021, and lasts through July 2022. Ten of those months will be spent on the road. In exchange for covering your stay and travel, the 12 people chosen will be required to provide feedback to Airbnb about their experience. Specifically:
- Product changes and resources that could help improve the long-term living experience
- Ideal types of accommodations for solo travelers or groups like families
- Connections to local community members and businesses
- Better understanding of financial benefits of hosting while traveling
Between July and September, the winners will have the opportunity to learn from expert Airbnbers, like The Senior Nomads, and traveling journalist Imani Bashir—a former Lifehacker staff writer. Then, for the 10 months of travel, Airbnb will cover:
- Credit for accommodations
- Transportation allowance
- Listing suggestions
- Local experiences
The selected participants can be joined by “up to three companions each.”
How to apply
As you can imagine, with a program this long, there are quite a few things to consider before applying. To help you with that, here are the Selection Terms (including things like paying taxes on your winnings).
You must be at least 18-years-old to apply, and can do so here before July 30 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
